Phase 3 Cover Letter

In this research paper I wanted to focus on an audience of basically anyone who would be interested to read this, but also an academic group, because this paper also zooms in on an educational system that could be used. Through this paper, I will be talking about Chinese immigrants and their struggles with the English language, and one of the solutions to that, is a program that educational institutions can implement to help Chinese immigrants learn English in a more proficient way. When writing this paper, I learned a lot about the experiences and negative things that Chinese immigrants go through because I never would’ve thought this happens since I live in Flushing, Queens, an area where many Chinese families live. I’ve learned about how important evidence when writing this paper because with the evidence and sources I’ve gathered, I could provide more insight and reasons onto my claims, and it gives a sense of credibility to the reader, being like, oh, this was researched on and focused on, this could be a reliable source. So using evidence, I felt that it made my claims and reasoning stronger, combining with my own experiences. Learning about the use of rhetorical precise and synthesis i think has made this essay better and a bit easier for me to write, especially synthesis because i wouldn’t really have known or gotten the idea of weaving the sources together to make a stronger evidence, making your claim and proof stronger. This I think made the paper stronger and better, and if i hadn’t learned about it, i don’t think it would’ve been as good. One of the course learning outcomes I’ve achieved through this assignment would be the “Practice systematic application of citation conventions”. Which (by using google) is when we used the MLA format to design this paper. I’ve never fully grasped the format for using MLA, especially when citing sources, but this assignment helped me alot, because I really used it a lot. I also achieved “Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s database or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias”. Looking for sources to use, we learned about using the CCNY library site and google scholars, with the help of BOOLEAN searches too. Which helped me a lot in finding the right sources I wanted to use when discussing the topic I wanted to focus on.
